The Taj Story OTT Release Date:
The Taj Story is set to premiere on OTT on March 13, 2026. The film will stream exclusively on Lionsgate Play.
After its theatrical release in October 2025, the courtroom drama is now ready for a digital audience, giving viewers across India the opportunity to watch the controversial Paresh Rawal starrer from the comfort of their homes.
What Is The Taj Story About?
The Taj Story follows Vishnu Das, played by Paresh Rawal, a seasoned guide who has worked at the Taj Mahal for more than three decades.
His life takes a dramatic turn when a private, intoxicated conversation is recorded and leaked online.
In the viral clip, Das questions the widely accepted history of the Taj Mahal, suggesting it may have originally been a Hindu temple or palace before the Mughal era.
The controversy isolates him socially and professionally. Determined to defend his reputation, Das files a Public Interest Litigation to validate his claims.
The courtroom becomes the central battleground in the second half of the film, where he faces Advocate Anwar Rashid, portrayed by Zakir Hussain.
Their intense exchanges revolve around historical evidence, architectural interpretations, and documentation from the Mughal period.
Cast and Crew Details
Alongside Paresh Rawal and Zakir Hussain, the film features Amruta Khanvilkar as Harsha Patel, Sneha Wagh as Sushmita, Namit Das as Avinash, and Brijendra Kala as lawyer Shashikant.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of Tushar Amrish Goel, who also penned the screenplay. The technical team includes cinematographer Satyajit Hajarnis, with music composed by Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dev Nath.
Critical Reaction and Controversy
When it released in cinemas, The Taj Story divided critics and audiences alike.
Some praised it for taking a bold stance on a sensitive historical debate, while others labelled it as leaning heavily on disputed theories. Much of the criticism centered around its reliance on claims previously dismissed by the Archaeological Survey of India.
While Paresh Rawal’s performance received appreciation for its emotional weight, reviewers pointed out the extensive use of green screen and artificial intelligence for recreating historical sequences.
The lengthy runtime and extended courtroom arguments were also cited as reasons for its mixed reviews.
Now, with its OTT release locked, audiences have the chance to watch and form their own opinions on one of the most debated films of recent times.
