Bollywood is often known for copying or getting inspired by Hollywood movies. Whether it is Sarkar or Hum Tum, many hit films were a remake of Hollywood films. Sarkar is a remake of the cult movie The Godfather whereas Hum Tum is a remake of When Harry Met Sally. To date, Bollywood is remaking Hollywood films. The upcoming film of Aamir Khan, Laal Singh Chadda is an official remake of Forest Gump. But from where Hollywood is inspired? The answer may be BOLLYWOOD. Yes, in this article we will list some Hollywood movies which are remakes of Bollywood movies.

Delivery Man  (Vicky Donor – 2012)

Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam’s debut film Vicky Donor is based on the story of infertility and sperm donation. The movie produced by John Abraham was a big hit at the box office and was also acclaimed by critics. Vicky Donor inspired the Hollywood film Delivery Man. It features the actors Vince Vaughn, Cobie Smulder and Chris Pratt. Delivery Man was released in the year 2013.

Meanwhile, both the films were inspired by the 2011 film French-Canadian film Starbuck. Delivery Man is the official remake of Starbuck.

Just Go With It (Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya)

You will not believe that the Hollywood film Just Go With It is very similar to David Dhawan’s Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya. Salman plays the doctor in the film where he convinces his assistant Sushmita Sen to be his wife and then they will be getting divorced as he has a girlfriend Katrina Kaif whom he wants to marry. He also ropes in Sushmita’s children to cooperate and claim to be his children. And together they all create a bunch of lies and after that, they understand their affection for each other.

Hollywood film Just Go With It also has a similar story where Adam Sandler is a plastic surgeon and Jennifer Aniston plays his assistant. The basic plot of both films is very similar. The original film was released in 2005 meanwhile the Hollywood film was released in 2011. 

Leap Year – 2010 (Jab We Met- 2007)

Jab We Met is about a girl who makes a special effort to meet her boyfriend however meets a person who assists her with finishing the trip yet ultimately ends up falling in love with him. Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor starrer was a big hit at the Box office.

Anand Tucker’s Leap Year too has a similar story where a woman wants to propose her boyfriend but catches a feeling for a person whom she befriended during her journey. Director Imtiaz Ali was more than happy when he realized that Hollywood film is inspired by his film. He didn’t issue any copyright or plagiarism against the Hollywood film. 

Fear – 1996 (Darr-1993)

Romantic thriller Darr is one of the best films in Bollywood and film buffs can always remember Shah Rukh Khan’s insane stalker role. The scene where Shah Rukh Khan carves Kiran’s name on the chest also exists in Hollywood film Fear. Mark Wahlberg also carves the name of Nicole on his chest. The storyline of James Foley’s Fear differs from the Bollywood film Darr. The Hollywood film’s name is also a literal translation of Hindi film Darr. Hollywood film became a hit when it was released in 1996. 

Hitch – 2005 (Choti Si Baat- 1976)

Many people think that the 2007 comedy film Partner directed by David Dhawan is a remake of Will Smith’s 2005 rom-com Hitch. Many people think that Hitch film is inspired by the 1976 film Choti Si Baat featuring Amol Palekar, Vidya Sinha and Ashok Kumar.

This film Choti Si Baat spins around a shy man who is infatuated with a lady, however, doesn’t have a clue how to communicate his feeling for her. He looks for help from a person, who’s made it his life’s main goal to assist with people stuck in love. And together they change him from a person who’s timid to somebody loaded up with style and swag. Also, the story of Partner is similar to this Hindi film.  

Pearl Harbor – 2001 (Sangam- 1964)

The Hollywood romantic war film starring Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett and Kate Beckinsale in lead roles. Pearl Harbor has a great resemblance with the 1964 Bollywood cult film Sangam featuring Raj Kapoor, Vyjayantimala and Rajendra Kumar.
Both the films have a love triangle. Meanwhile, the Hollywood version was criticised as it was not based on the incident of Pearl Harbor and was a love triangle. Also, the Hollywood film was nominated for four Oscar Awards.

Win a Date with Tad Hamilton – 2004 (Rangeela – 1995)

Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, cult classic Rangeela featuring Urmila Matondkar, Aamir Khan and Jackie Shroff revolves around a ‘tapori ‘who adores a young lady and is profoundly anxious to admit his feelings to her. However, the young lady is a struggler and wants to be in films. She gets drawn to her co-star, who starts loving her back. Meanwhile, the Hollywood version of Win a Date with Tad Hamilton has a similar storyline. But in the Hollywood version, the lady ends up having a date with Tad Hamilton.

Kill Bill Volume 1 – 2003 (Abhay – 2001)

Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill was inspired by Kamal Hassan’s Abhay. During an interview with Anurag Kashyap, Quentin admitted that the animated action sequence in Kill Bill was inspired by Abhay. Also, Quentin admitted that he saw the Indian serial killer film which had violence in the form of animation. 

Divorce Invitation – 2012 (Aahwanam 1997)

Hollywood Movies Remakes Of Bollywood Movies:

There are various south Indian films that are inspired by Hollywood films. Then those south Indian films are remade in Bollywood. But Tamil film-maker SV Krishnan Reddy remade his Tamil romantic comedy Aahwanam for Hollywood. Hollywood film featured Jonathan Bennett and Jamie in lead roles.

The Dirty Dozen ( Do Ankhen Barah Haath – 1957)

Produced and Directed by V. Shantaram, Do Ankhen Barah Haath is a Bollywood film released in 1957. The film is about 12 prison convicts who are changed into productive citizens of society.

After a decade in 1967 released a film called The Dirty Dozen was directed by Robert Aldrich. This film had a similar storyline to Do Ankhen Barah Haath. The film too depicted 12 convicts who were prepared into military men.
